Talking To Myself

I had quite a long day, meaning it moved rather slow.

It had its moments, but nothing worth needing to know.

But my mind moves to a specific event, and my thoughts fill the empty air.

As a smile creeps over my face I look to my right, but all I see is a vacant chair.

I was on my way to the library, making my weekly rounds.

I waited in line for coffee, my thoughts drowning out all other sounds.

I started thinking about my book, excited for details to share.

But when I looked over at the seat, there was nobody there.

I never have one thing to say, in a room full of peers.

Perhaps deep down I know, they won’t lend me their ears.

But I never had an issue I couldn’t resolve, when I was left alone.

I suppose overtime I found, I’m much better on my own.

I‘ve learned to take a paper, and my favorite kind of pen.

And sit down and revisit thoughts I had, every now and then.

Maybe I’m going crazy, and that’s what makes the people stare.

But I‘m yet to meet someone who is worth, replacing my empty chair.

If I can make one smile with a few words, it will be worth all the pain it took to write them.
